Set in middle school, 13 The Musical Broadway is the story about growing up and takes the viewers through the highs and lows of a boy who is going to turn 13. This all-teenage cast musical is about Evan Goldman who is forced to move from New York to a small town in Appleton, Indiana that he feels is the lamest place in the world. As Goldman shifts to the new place he desperately tries to make new friends and in the process learns a few lessons of life.

Based on a book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn, 13 The Musical Broadway was premiered at Los Angeles'Mark Taper Forum last year and was transferred to Broadway in September this year where it opened at Bernad B Jacobs Theatre on September 16, 2008 with previews. Running since October 5, 2008 in New York, the musical is on till January 4, 2009.

An Account Of The Story

The 90-minute musical begins with the story of a boy who lives in New York and is part of a perfect family. However, everything turns upside down for the young lad when his parents get divorced and he is forced to move to Indiana. This move clashes with his Bar Mitzvah.

This high energy musical takes us through Goldman’s efforts to entice the cool boys and girls at Dan Quayle Junior High to attend his Bar Mitzvah. 13 year old Evan played by Graham Philips tries to make friends with the head cheerleader Kendra played by Delaney Moro, the mean girl Lucy played by Elizabeth Egan Gillies and the school jock Brett played by Eric M Nelson. And in this process his only friends - the intelligent geeky girl Patrice played by Allie Trimm and the physically disabled Archie played by Aaron Simon Gross turn their backs to him. Everything, however, turns well in the end with Evan Goldman’s Bar Mitzvah turning out to be a success where all his friends talk about their experiences on turning 13 and the young boy realizing that life needs to be faced as it is.

What makes 13 The Musical Broadway fresh and lively is the fact that all its band members and the cast are teenagers. The show directed by Jeremy Sam tells us through its beautiful songs and rock score that life must go on. The show’s teenage star cast is bound to cast a spell on the youngsters while elders can enjoy the superb yet natural performances and the excellent dances that form part of the musical. Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown has composed the music for this show.

The show choreographed by Tony Award nominee Christopher Gattelli has Tom Kitt as its music director. 13 The musical Broadway’s onstage teen band members include Lexi Bodick on bass, Zac Coe on percussion, Adam Kaufman on keyboard, Zach Page on guitar, Chris Raymond on guitar and Charlie Rosen. Tickets for 13 the musical Broadway are available online through the registered agents of Broadway.
