9 to 5 The Broadway Musical staged its final Broadway show on September 6th. This musical is based on a movie released in 1980 by the name Nine to Five. It features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. The premier show of the musical was held in September 2008 at Ahmanson Theatre, Center Theater Group in Los Angeles. The first Broadway show was on April 30, 2009.

Act 1 of the musical featured eleven songs including 9 to 5, Around Here, The Dance of Death, Backwoods Barbie, and Heart to Heart. The second Act featured eight songs including Let Love Grow, Get Out and Stay Out, One of the Boys and Always a Woman.

Generally, the performances of the female leads have been praised, though the show has been accused of being tasteless in parts. Some critics have praised the music, not all of it, though. Overall, the opinion has been that it is good entertainment, and that a successful film has been well transformed into a good and entertaining musical. These include Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award to Dolly Parton for musical score and the award for Choreography to Andy Blackenbuehler. This musical has received a record 15 nominations for the Drama Desk awards, of which one category, the award for an Outstanding Actress in A Musical converted it to a win. Nominations for the Tony awards included Best Original Score for Dolly Parton, Best Performance By A Leading Actress In A Musical for Allison Janney, Best Performance By A Featured Actor in a Musical for March Kudisch and Award for Best Choreography for Andy Blankenbuehler.
Nominations for the Drama League Awards included Distinguished Production in A Musical, Distinguished Performance for Megan Hilty and Distinguished Performance for Allison Janney.
