Right blend of actors, the perfect drama, and a great script, these are the ingredients that make up a great story and a winning play, like A Behanding in Spokane, at the Broadway theatre world. With this mix you can end up enjoying your weekend at the theatre. You can catch up with the new play being performed and enjoy the live performances of the superbly talented cast.

This weekend you might like to catch up with the new play A Behanding in Spokane premiering at the Schoenfeld theatre. Directed by John Crowley, this play premieres in February and plans to run for 16 weeks. Martin McDonough, the playwright who has also written plays like The Lieutenant of Inshore and The Pillow man has been nominated for the prestigious Emmy Awards.

A Behanding in Spokane, being performed by a stellar cast of actors, is going to capture the imagination of its audiences. This story is an unusual and dark comedy about a man without a left hand who is in search for it for almost half a century.

The Cast

Headed by veteran actor Christopher Waken, the stage is set in a small US town where he plays the lead role of Carmichael. He is supported by the Sam Rockwell as a hotel clerk, Anthony Mackie and Zoe Kazan as the scam artists.

The Story

As the title of the play A Behanding in Spokane suggests, Carmichael is missing his left hand. He has been looking for it for nearly half a century. He lost his limb when he had an unfortunate encounter with some roughnecks who used a speeding train and the tracks to dismember Carmichael’s hand. Since then he has been in search for his missing limb and looking for it in the most unlikely of places. He grows increasingly angry, and his voice is enough to convey to the audience the kind of thoughts that go through his mind. Enter the scam artists who try to con Carmichael into buying a fake hand for a couple of bucks not realizing the danger they might be getting themselves into. The hotel clerk with a cache full of stories may or may not be able to help them. His naive ways may probably serve to help him end up in more trouble than he had bargained for.

The Actors

Christopher Walken, whose name is enough to inspire interest in The Be handing in Spokane, uses his charisma and his breath-taking performance as the dark and dangerous man to take acting out a character to a whole different level. His power-packed performance is ably supported by Sam Rockwell who is no novice to the business of acting.

Special effects have also helped create the relatively real image of a limbless Waken. The show’s producer Robert Fox elaborates that they have worked hard to create a realistic effect.
