YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO A NEW MUSICAL!

This lavish new musical written and starring four time Tony award winner Harvey Fierstein comes to the Walter Kerr Theatre for previews on March 25, 2008 with an official start date of April 17, 2008. A Catered Affair is a family drama/comedy that has all the makings of becoming a Broadway success including an award-winning cast, an upbeat score and a heartwarming story that many can relate to.

This family saga is set in 1950’s Bronx and focuses on a funny and touching story of a mother who desperately wants to give her daughter the dream wedding that she never had and the daughter who never asked for it. The question quickly becomes just who’s wedding is it? This family must decide if they should spend their life savings on a family business or a lavish catered affair. Will this be the wedding of the year? The story turns into a tug of war between the mother and the daughter over the plans for the wedding and over the decision on how the money should be spent. Can they decide on a happy medium?

The talented cast is led by three hard-hitting Broadway actors. Harvey Fierstein is not only responsible for creating the production but he also stars in it as well. He is best known for creating the Tony award-winning, over-the-top performance of Edna Turnblad in the original production of Hairspray. He also wrote and starred in Torch Song Trilogy for which he won two Tony awards: one for writing and one for acting. It was a groundbreaking production for its time as it provided a candid look into gay life in 1980’s New York. He was last seen on Broadway in the 2005 production of Fiddler on the Roof. Tony award winner Faith Price also stars in this musical. She is best known for award –winning role in Guys and Dolls in 1992 and for her performance in Bells Are Ringing. Eighties television heartthrob Tom Wopat also appears in the show. Wopat is well known for his role as Luke Duke in the popular primetime series The Dukes of Hazard and has had successful stints on Broadway in Annie Get your Gun opposite Bernadette Peters and most recently in 2007 in Chicago as charismatic lawyer Billy Flynn. In addition to Fierstein the production was also written by acclaimed songwriter John Bucchino and is being directed by Tony award winner John Doyle.

This touching and uplifting story will leave you wanting more. It is a fresh, emotional tale of love, hope and the true meaning of what a family is to each other. This is a great opportunity to catch a seasoned cast in this springs newest stage spectacular. A powerhouse production that shouldn’t be missed!
