A Steady Rain on Broadway stars actor Daniel Craig and one of Hollywood’s own, Hugh Jackman. Craig is known for playing lead roles in several theatrical plays such as Angels in America and A Number, and is also known for his lead role as James Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Jackman has starred in a number of musicals including Oklahoma!, Carousel and Sunset Boulevard. He is also very well known for his Blockbuster hit X-Men: The Last Stand and suspense-thriller, Swordfish.

John Crowley is the director of this musical which is about two cops in Chicago that have been lifelong friends. The daily happenings that they stumble upon will forever change their lives.

A Steady Rain On Broadway was first performed at New York Stage and Film Powerhouse Theatre in 2006.

It was then revised and performed at Chicago’s Royal George Theatre in 2008, and shortly after won the Jefferson Award for Best Production and Best New Work. In one scene of the musical, characters Joey (Craig) and Denny (Jackman) find a Vietnamese boy. They return him to a man who claims to be the boy’s uncle, but the Chicago cops soon find out that this uncle is a cannibalistic serial killer who has chosen the boy as his next victim. It eventually comes to the point where either Joey or Denny has to put their own life on the line.

A Steady Rain marked Craig’s Broadway debut, although he has previously appeared at the Royal National Theatre and the Peter Hall Company. A Steady Rain is one of the most awaited theatrical performances this fall.

This stellar show has a plot that is based on the well-known, real life story of Jeffrey Dahmer. This Broadway show alternates from dialogue scenes that occur in the present moment and two separate monologues.

The Chicago Tribune says the musical is “a gritty, rich, thick, poetic, and entirely gripping noir tale.” (Chicagodramatists.org) Craig and Jackman deliver deep, heartfelt speeches and so much emotion before the audience because it is based on an actual person, his life and decisions. Chicago Sun-Times writer, Hedy Weiss, gave a sparkling review with her comment, “I would be happy to see this production again with an audience of real men in blue, just to take the temperature in the room.” (Chicagodramatists.org)

The Broadway show began previewing at Schoenfeld Theatre on September 10, 2009 and will officially open on September 29. It is only scheduled to show for a twelve week period, so the last show will be on December 6, 2009.
