DAVID HYDE PIERCE RETURNES TO THE STAGE!

Manhattan Theatre Club presents the revival of Samson Raphaelson’s clever comedy Accent on Youth. This witty production opened on April 29, 2009 at the Samuel J. Friedmann Theatre on April 29, 2009 and welcomes back Tony Award winner and critically acclaimed actor David Hyde Pierce in an engaging and memorable role about the toll a mid-life crisis can take on a person.

The production centers on successful, but lazy playwright Stephen Gaye who is about to stop work on his latest script, but when his young and vibrant secretary provides him new inspiration he sees a whole new light. With her as his muse he is able to bring the show all the way to Broadway only to find out that the show’s young leading man is being inspired by her too. The show provides a story about the possibilities of love and the lengths we will go to obtain it. It also explores one man’s idea of the importance of youth and what he will do to recapture his.

The production first debuted on Broadway in 1934 and has since inspired three film adaptations of the story. The first was in 1935 and starred Herbert Marshall and Sylvia Sydney, the second was a 1950 musical version titled Mr. Music which starred Bing Crosby and the third was titled But Not For Me and had Clark Gable in the lead role. Leading off the cast of this Broadway endeavor is Tony Award winner and Four Time Emmy Award winner Pierce. He is probably best known for his long time award winning role as Dr. Niles Crane on the popular television sitcom Frasier. He made his Broadway debut in the 1982 production of Beyond Therapy and was in the original cast of Monty Python’s Spamalot as Sir Robin. In 2007 he won the Tony for his role as Broadway loving Lieutenant Frank Cioffi in Curtains. He has had roles in such productions as The Heidi Chronicles and Much Ado About Nothing. His film credits include Osmosis Jones. Treasure Planet and Down with Love. The show also stars Lisa Banes, Rosie Benton, David Furr and Mary Catherine Garrison. The production is being directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

This fantastic production will be sure to dazzle you, but hurry and get your Accent On Youth tickets soon because it is on a limited engagement and is scheduled to close on June 28, 2009. The show runs two hours with one intermission. Don’t miss this one!
