A New Jazz Musical Revue!

After Midnight is now playing for the new jazz musical revue on Broadway. The production officially opened on Sunday November 3rd at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The musical review was formerly known as "Cotton Club Parade". The latest production was thought up by Jack Viertel , a two time Tony Winner. The show also feature Fantasia, of American-Idol fame, who voiced excitement about being able to perform on Broadway in a jazz inspired era piece. This new show features a great cast with phenomenal songs from the greatest jazz singers and performers of the time. After Midnight tickets are a true treat for music fans this fall season on Broadway!

After Midnight is the creation of Jack Viertel , whom started with the "Cotton Club Parade". The original work featured a two show run at the City Center under the production of City Center Encores! The production received rave reviews for the 90 minute musical celebration of jazz greats from the segregation era within New York's famous Harlem club. "After Midnight" is based on this much talked about production but "souped" up a bit for the big stage and (hopefully) long run along the "Great White Way."

The musical moves seamlessly through twenty-five legendary songs which represent the height of the jazz era. The show covers what can be known as the "Ellington Years" of the Cotton Club's legacy, a period within the 1920s and 1930s where many great black jazz musicians performed. The Broadway production ups the stakes a bit more with the addition of two big names along the marque, American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino and the singer-dancer-actor Dulé Hill . The new musical jazz revue also features an orchestra (Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars,) of 17 world-class musicians performing alongside twenty-five singers and dancers. The production also boasts a number of special guests and headliners along the way brining the celebrated golden age of jazz music into the new era.

Cast members include Fantasia (October 18 - February 9), k.d. lang (February 11 - March 9), Dulé Hill and Adriane Lenox tackling the great jazz songs by such composers as Duke Ellington, Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields and Harold Arlen. The story is set to the poetry of Langston Hughes. Songs include "Come Fly Away", “Hottentot”“ and It Don’t Mean a Thing.” After Midnight tickets are now available for all show times and performances. The is a wonderful production which gives a glimpses into the swinging era of jazz greats and a must for all fans of music!
