American Buffalo On Broadway
MAINSTREAM CAST TO STAR ON BROADWAY!
Another Davis Mamet play is hitting Broadway this fall. The comedy/drama American Buffalo opened at the Belasco Theatre on November 17, 2008. The production stars three big Hollywood names; John Leguizamo, Cedric the Entertainer and Haley Joel Osment in what promises to be an extremely entertaining theater experience.
The production which is set in a Chicago pawn shop follows the illegal actions of three small time thieves who dream of making it big but end up going no where. The play analyzes their plot to steal a valuable buffalo nickel from a wealthy man. It is a harsh portrayal of criminal desperation and shows just how far some people are willing to take it. In true Mamet style the dialogue and unique banter between characters is unrivaled.
Leading off this band of crooks in the role of Teach is Tony nominated actor John Leguizamo. He is no stranger to Broadway having written and starred in Freak (1998) and Sexaholix (2001 & 2003). He is best known for his many guest television roles and starring in such films as Moulin Rouge, Love in the Time of Cholera and Righteous Kill. In the role of Don is the very talented comedic actor Cedric the Entertainer making his Broadway debut. He is best known for being one of the Original Kings of Comedy and has starred in such films as Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Johnson Family Vacation and Lemony Snickers A Series of Unfortunate Events. Also making his Broadway debut in the role of Bobby is Academy Award nominee Haley Joel Osment. He is best known for his work in such films as Forrest Gump, The Sixth Sense and Pay It Forward.
American Buffalo is a groundbreaking 1976 play that won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. The play was adapted into a film starring Dennis Franz and Dustin Hoffman. Some of Mamet’s other works include Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed-the-Plow which is currently playing on Broadway until February 2009.
This interesting revival tells a tale of corruption and betrayal that begs the question: Is there honor among thieves? The show runs for two hours and fifteen minutes with one intermission. American Buffalo on Broadway Tickets are on sale now for this intriguing character study but don’t delay as the show is on a strictly limited engagement and is scheduled to close on April 19, 2009.
