American Idiot Musical
Green Day Album Inspires Broadway Magic!American Idiot is scheduled to start previews on March 24, 2010 at the St. James Theatre with an official start date set for April 20. This new Broadway musical debuted in a hit, extended sold-out world-premiere engagement at California’s Berkeley Repertory Theater in the fall of 2009, and has since received subsequent tweaks and revisions by the creative team, but is now ready for New York audiences. Green Day's epic album transforms into a high-octane rock opera about war, drugs, dreams and reality involving working-class characters, from the suburbs to the city all the way to Middle East. It displays how we are all connected in a world filled with frustration. The musical follows the exhilarating journey of a new generation of young Americans as they struggle to find meaning in a post 9/11 world. The show is infused with Green Day's exhilarating score. The musical includes every song from the acclaimed album 'American Idiot,' as well as several songs from the band's Grammy Award-winning new release, '21st Century Breakdown.' The cast includes Tony Award winner John Gallagher Jr. (Spring Awakening), Tony nominee Stark Sands (Journey’s End) and Michael Esper (A Man for All Seasons). Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) co-wrote the book with Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong. Music and lyrics are by Green Day (Tré Cool, Armstrong and Mike Dirnt). The lead producers are Tom Hulce and Ira Pittelman. The production also features choreography by Steven Hoggett, orchestrations by Tony winner Tom Kitt, scenic design by Tony nominee Christine Jones, costume design by Andrea Lauer, lighting design by two-time Tony winner Kevin Adams, sound design by Brian Ronan and video design by Darrel Maloney. There is a whole lot of Broadway power behind this unique creation. American Idiot is already creating quite a buzz among critics and theatergoers. It’s one of the Spring’s most anticipated musicals. The production runs a full ninety-five minutes with no intermission. Tickets are currently on sale now.
