The Story Of "The Shirelles" Takes To The Stage As A Jukebox Musical!Baby Its You tickets are on sale now for all show times at the Broadhurst Theatre. The new jukebox musical is written by American stage/ film director, writer and producer Floyd Mutrux alongside Colin Escott. The show tells the story of the 1960's pop group named " The Shirelles." Since the previews which began on March 26, 2011 the production has received mixed to warm reviews. All critics agree that "Baby It's You" is a fun and entertaining stage show filled with great songs. The delightful stage show is a must see for fans of the music and era of the 1960's.
The Shirelles were an all female pop quartet that became popular in the early 1960's. The members of the four piece group included Shirley Owens (lead singer), Doris Coley, Beverly Lee, and Addie "Micki" Harris. The story goes on further to introduce Florence Greenberg, a New Jersey housewife who started up her Tiara Record label once she signed "The Shirelles." Greenberg discovered the four talented woman at a local school talent contest. The group quickly received recognition with their first single "I Met Him On a Sunday." As the group began to break into the mainstream Florence Greenberg would sell the label with "The Shirelles" contract to Decca Records for four thousand dollars. Greenberg used the monies to fund a fresh recording label named Scepter Records in 1959. Her new business venture would become one of the most prominent recording labels of the 1960's discovering such artists as The Kingsmen, The Isley Brothers and Dionne Warwick.
Baby Its You tickets sold for the productions premier in Los Angeles at the Coast Playhouse on July 18, 2009. The production was directed by Floyd Mutrux with a cast which included Meeghan Holaway, Erica Ash and Barry Pearl. After the productions final curtain on August 30, 2009, the musical transferred to the Pasadena Playhouse with the same cast running from November 13, 2009, to December 13, 2009. The Broadway production officially opened on April 27, 2011 at the Broadhurst Theatre. Directed by Sheldon Epps with a cast which includes Beth Leavel as Florence, Christina Sajous, Erica Ash, Kyra DaCosta, and Crystal Starr Knighton. Songs include "Mama Said," "Yakety Yak," "Twist And Shout," and "Louie, Louie" under the orchestrations by Don Sebesky.
Baby Its You tickets continue the popular trend of "Jukebox musicals" on Broadway. With the unbelievable box office success of "Jersey Boys" many such productions pop on along the Great White Way each season such as "Play On!," which Epps directed as well. While "Baby It's You" may not be a groundbreaking new show for Broadway it is flowing with fun songs and an interesting story. A sure audience hit for fans of "The Shirelles", the jukebox musical or just anyone who is a fan of popular music.
