The original home for Blackhawks tickets sales were for "Chicago Stadium". The indoor arena was both a sports complex and theater built in 1929. It would be home for the Blackhawks (then spelled "Black Hawks" between 1929 until 1994. The NBA Chicago Bulls would begin to share the arena for home games starting in 1967. The arena cost 9.5 million dollars to build and was completed on March 28, 1929. It was the largest indoor arena at the time, the closest in comparison was "Madison Square Garden" which had half of the seating capacity. The arena was loud providing ringing sounds throughout which earned it the nickname "The Madhouse on Madison".The United Center
The United Center would replace the "Madhouse" in 1994. The replacement arena is located in the Near West Side of Chicago. The new home for Blackhawks tickets sales are named after its corporate sponsor "United Airlines" which pays 1.8 million dollars annually for the rights to the name. The contract with "United" is scheduled to run out in 2014. The United Center was opened for both NHL hockey and NBA basketball on August 18, 1994 and soon after Chicago Stadium was demolished. The center remains the home for both the Blackhawks and the Bulls.
The United Center was the vision of the two franchise owners Bill Wirtz and Jerry Reinsdorf. It is located just west of the famous "Chicago Loop" section of the city. The appearance of the arena strongly resembles the old Chicago Stadium. It also is the largest indoor arena in the U.S.A. in its size but other arenas have a greater overall seating capacity. The United Center was also designed to amplify the sounds within the stadium, holding onto what made "The Madhouse on Madison" so special for hockey fans.
The Blackhawks and Bulls teams each play over eighty home games per annum at the United Center.
