Bonnie and Clyde Tickets
Classic American Story Turned Musical Hits The Big Stage! The highly anticipated Bonnie and Clyde tickets are on sale now for previews beginning on November 4, 2011. The new musical is scheduled for an opening night on December 1 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Bonnie and Clyde feature a book by Ivan Menchell, music by Frank Wildhorn, and lyrics by Don Black. This is of course the well-known story of ill-fated lovers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, which become outlaws during the Great Depression. Many may be surprised to see the story adapted into a Broadway musical but the producers promise it will be a "non-traditional score."
The musical production debuted at the La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, California on November 10, 2009. The show ran through December 20, 2009 being directed by Jeff Calhoun, whom also choreographed. The La Jolla production won the 2009 San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Awards. A second production of Bonnie and Clyde the musical ran at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida. The show opened on November 19, 2010 with a final curtain on December 19, 2010 under the direction of Jeff Calhoun. The Asolo production was the proving ground for if the musical made it to the big stage.
The plot for the story is well-known in American History. With the Depression era of West Texas as the backdrop Bonnie is a 23-year-old diner waitress who has big dreams. Clyde Barrow has just broken out of prison with his brother Buck and see the young waitress on the road. Clyde helps her fix, her car and the two make a quick connection. Buck's wife Blanche Barrow pleads for him to turn himself in and return to prison. Clyde wants no part of going back into the "big house" and separates from his brother. Clyde is eventually captured from the authorities and receives a harsh sentence. Under heavy attacks in prison, Clyde takes his first life, convinces Bonnie to smuggle him a gun and escapes after killing a deputy. Bonnie and Clyde begin their life on the run, stealing and robbing everything along the way to avoid being caught. Clyde stays in touch with his brother and eventually realizes there is more for him and his wife running with Clyde. The group soon becomes national folk heroes to many poor Americans as the group stays on one step ahead of authorities chasing them in the South. The outlaws continue to seek refuge in small hideouts, barley avoiding capture with a bounty on their heads.
The musical score provides an interesting variety of blues, folk and bluegrass songs. Songs include "Picture Show," "This World Will Remember Us," "You're Goin Back to Jail," "God's Arms Are Always Open," "Raise a Little Hell," and "Made in America." The cast includes Laura Osnes as Bonnie and Jeremy Jordan as Clyde with Melissa van der Schyff as Blanche Barrow, Claybourne Elder as Marvin "Buck" Barrow, Louis Hobson as Ted Hinton, Leslie Becker as Cumie Barrow & Gov. Ferguson, Mimi Bessette as Emma Parker, Joe Hart as The Sheriff and Matt Lutz as Bud. Bonnie and Clyde tickets are sure to provide an evening of great entertainment, including wonderful acting, amazing staging and historic video with pictures.
