Classic Comedy Film Finds Home On Broadway!Bring It On tickets for the new musical are about to be tested. Producers behind the production felt they were taking a huge risk at the box office. The production will soon see if it can gain an audience and recoup costs to go into profit for investors. The musical about cheerleading and a spin-off of the popular movie from 2000 starring Kirsten Dunst first staged as a tryout in Atlanta. Producers always intended to get the show to the big stage. Bring It On :: The Musical was developed by some major Broadway talents, including the Tony winners Tom Kitt (“Next to Normal”) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (“In the Heights”). With strong minds behind the show and movie popularity on its side hopes to return the "estimated" five million in costs should be likely. Bring It On tickets are on sale for all performances at the St. James Theatre. The musical is a limited engagement which will close on October 7, 2012. Bring It On is a look into the world of competitive cheerleading. The musical is based on the original teen comedy "cult" film hit of the same name. The narrative of the movie centers around Torrance Shipman (Kirsten Dunst), who inherits the position of captain on her high school's cheerleading crew and tries to lead her squad to a sixth national title. However, Torrance is instructed by the new team member, Missy Pantone (Eliza Dushku), that she's in possession of a stolen routine. When the creators of the work vow to win, Torrance and her squad must go to unusual areas in order to produce an original act. The musical will follow the storyline. The film went on to produce four sequels, which did not include any original cast members nor shared in much commercial success. The premiere stage adaptation of the film premiered at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia on January 16, 2011. The show included music by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tom Kitt, lyrics by Amanda Green, and a book by Jeff Whitty. Andy Blankenbuehler shares the director and choreographer credits. The cast includes Amanda LaVergne as Campbell, Adrienne Warren as Danielle, and Nick Blaemire as Randall. The production also enjoyed the work of many award-winning competitive cheerleaders. The original production then enjoyed a national tour which played big cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Houston, and Toronto. Reviews have praised the production, especially for its high energy gymnastic and dance routines equally backed with the strong score.
