Despite the fact that Mamma Mia has been around for almost 7 years, the Broadway Mamma Mia tickets are still popular. Mamma Mia premiered in London at the Prince Edward theatre on April 6th 1999. Since then, the musical has been staged at Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, New York, Providence in Rhode Island, Las Vegas, Bremen, Utrecht in Netherlands, Madrid and Barcelona in Spain, Antwerp in Belgium, Moscow, Manchester, and Oslo in Norway.

Mamma Mia is a musical based on the songs of the famous Swedish pop group of the 1970s and 80s, ABBA. Creative Producer Judy Craymer conceived the musical. She asked Catherine Johnson to weave a story around the songs and thus the musical Mamma Mia was borne.

The story is an adaptation of the 1969 movie “Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell”. Phyllida Llyod is the director of the show. The music is composed by Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus. The show is a big hit with ABBA fans. The musical is playing at Winter Gardens and Broadway Mamma Mia tickets are forever in demand.

The story of Mamma Mia is set on a sunny Greek island where Sophie(Carrie Manolakos), the daughter of Donna(Carolee Carmello), is all set to get married to a handsome guy, Sky(Andy Kelso). Donna, a hotel owner on the island, is a single mother. Sophie wants her father to be there for her wedding. From Donna’s diary, she discovers three prospective fathers- Harry Bright (Ben Livingstone), Bill Austin (Pearce Bunting), Sam Carmichael (Christopher Shyer). She is sure that once she meets them, she will be able to recognize her father. Unknown to Sky and Donna, she invites them to the wedding. Also present at the wedding are Tanya(Judy McLane) and Rosie(Gina Ferrall), friends of Donna who were a part of her band “Donna and The Dynamoes”. Unfortunately, once Sophie comes face-to-face with her probable fathers, she feels confused. When Donna sees all three of her previous boyfriends, she is upset, angry and bewildered.

The cast of the musical do ample justice to their roles. The various scenes are beautifully interspersed with the hit songs of ABBA. Some of the songs include numbers like "Dancing Queen," "The Winner Takes It All," "Take A Chance on Me," "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "Super Trouper".

Irrespective of whether you are ABBA fan or not, you will definitely enjoy the foot-tapping numbers. The choreography by Anthony Van Laast is exuberant. The lighting by Howard Harrison is good and the costumes are vibrant. It has all the ingredients of an entertaining musical.
