Billy Elliot leads the pack with 15 nominations!
Nominations in twenty-seven competitive categories were announced on May 5, 2009 and the winners will be announced on June 7, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall.
The musical sensation, Billy Elliot, about a boy defying the odds and achieving his dreams picked up fifteen nods including one for Best Musical. This successful West End transfer debuted on Broadway in October of 2008 with music by singer/songwriter extraordinaire Sir Elton John. An impressive fifteen nominations is currently the record held by The Producers. Get your tickets today for this fantastic production to see what all the hype is about. You won’t be disappointed!
Taking the second place spot for nominations this year is the new musical Next to Normal with eleven nominations and tying for third place are two more musicals; Hair and Shrek both received eight each and rounding out the musical category is West Side Story with four nominations including Beat Revival of a Musical.
In the play category is God of Carnage with six nods and Mary Stuart with seven nominations including Best Revival of a Play.
Now is the time to check out these hot productions worthy of winning the highest prize in the Broadway industry. Usually once a show is nominated for a Tony the ticket becomes an extremely hot item so don’t delay get your seats soon especially if it is on the following list.
