Broadway Shows News October 2007
WHAT’S HAPPENING … BROADWAY - October 2007!
It’s fall in the city! The thermometer is cooling down, the leaves are changing colors, the air is a bit crisper and Broadway has a fascinating new line up. As the season brings on a whole new atmosphere so does the Great White Way. In the next few months many big names will be appearing on various marquees making this a perfect time to take in a show or two!
It has been said that variety is the spice of life and as usual the assortment of shows provides a little something for everyone. There are many new plays to choose from and the trend seems to be putting well known television and film stars in leading roles. Mostly all of the plays premiering this fall have a big name or two performing in the main roles. A Bronx Tale is a riveting one-man show starring actor and playwright Chazz Palmiteri performing eighteen roles. George Bernard Shaw’s classic Pygmalion returns to Broadway starring Claire Danes in the role of Eliza Doolittle. The much anticipated legal drama The Farnsworth Invention was written by Aaron Sorkin, the Emmy award winning creator of televisions the West Wing, and stars Emmy award winner and Tony nominated actor Hank Azaria. Also opening in November is Cymbeline the Shakespeare classic which combines comedy, tragedy and history. It stars Martha Plimpton in the role of the king’s daughter, Imogen, which is said to be Shakespeare’s last great female role. A revival of the Tony award winning play The Ritz is also coming and bringing with it is the very funny and talented Rosie Perez. Cyrano de Bergerac is a revival of a classic tale of romance and tragedy and stars Hollywood staples Kevin Kline and Jennifer Garner.
If a musical is what you had in mind then don’t miss this frightfully funny new comedy opening in October. Young Frankenstein is based on the 1974 hit movie. Mel Brooks brings us, as only he can, the theatrical version of this hysterical take on the famous Mary Shelley tale starring Tony award winner Roger Bart and Emmy winner Megan Mullally. This is one that audiences will truly enjoy.
Tis the season … making their way back to Broadway just in time for the holidays are Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular and Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Christmas Spectacular is celebrating its 75th anniversary and as always features the legendary Rockettes. Either show is sure to put you in the holiday spirit! Tickets are on sale for both productions.
As you can see there are so many shows to choose from this time of the year. So if you are planning a trip to NYC during the leaf changing season shop, dine and sightsee, but definitely see a show. You won’t be sorry!
