TD Garden

100 Legends Way
Boston, MA 02114

The TD Banknorth Garden is situated in downtown Boston above the North station. Ever since it was inaugurated in 1995 as a replacement for the old Boston Garden arena, the TD Garden has played host to the Boston Bruins (National Hockey League), Boston Blazers (National Lacrosse League) and the Boston Celtics (National Basketball Association). Celtics tickets being among the biggest selling events for the venue.

Changing Times, Changing Names

No account of the arena’s history will be complete without a mention of its interesting name changes over the years. When the construction of the place began, it was called Shawmut Center after its private sponsor, the Shawmut Bank. When the arena was inaugurated as a replacement of the Boston Garden in September 1995, it was renamed the FleetCenter. Needless to say, it was named so since the arena received large, private financial backing mainly from the Fleet Bank of Boston. During the time it went by the name of FleetCenter, this Celtics home arena was often referred to as ‘The Vault’ by the sportswriters in Boston.

After the Fleet Bank withdrew its naming rights in 2005, the naming rights were available for sale on eBay for about a month. Fans could purchase naming rights for about USD 5000 per night. Then in March 2005, permanent naming rights were sold to TD Banknorth based in Maine – the US subsidiary of the Toronto Dominian Bank. This company named the arena TD Banknorth Garden to honor its original name of Boston Garden. This name was officially announced on July 1st 2005. During the subsequent naming and renaming, the Celtics facility has had about 33 different names.

Renovations And Enhancements

The TD Garden underwent extensive renovation during the summer of 2006. In addition to upgrading many existing features and suites, the arena was enhanced with facilities such as:

The AT&T Sports Deck of the Premium Club
The Heineken Boardroom
The Hub – a new bar on level 4
New retail stands

The TD Garden is also home to the Sports Museum of New England that is dedicated to the legacy of sports in New England. At the museum you can view the penalty box of Boston Garden, Celtics banners, the locker that belonged to Larry Bird, plenty of Red Sox memorabilia and lots more. The museum is open to public everyday from 11am to 5 pm. The admission charges are as follows:

USD 6 per adult
USD 4 per child
USD 15 per family

A Happening Arena

The TD Garden continues to play host to some of the hottest performances like seven sold-out shows of U2 and high-profile events like the World Championship Boxing. It is also home to the Hockey East Championships and the annual college Beanpot hockey tournament. The home arena of the Boston Celtics has also hosted events such as:

The NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Championships in 1998 and 2004The Women’s Final Four in 2006The Democratic National Convention in 2004

The TD Garden is a favorite arena for lots of private events such as conventions, annual meetings, charity dinners, receptions, marketing seminars and graduations. The sprawling space, advanced audio/video capabilities and world-class restaurants make this arena a perfect choice for all kinds of gatherings. However, since the events here often tend to be sold-out, it would be a good idea to look out for other reliable sources of Celtics tickets such as online ticket brokers.
