Chicago Blackhawks tickets have sold in the city as the team is the original NHL franchise. The Blackhawks are members of the first six teams of the NHL. The National Hockey League organized in 1917, on September 25, 1926 Major Frederic McLaughlin was awarded with the franchise. McLaughlin was a Chicago coffee mogul who was also a commander of the 333rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division. The division would go on to be nicknamed the ""Blackhawk Division", and become the name for the Chicago NHL club. Originally spelled with a "space" as "Black Hawks" the name would eventually be put together as one word after discovering documentation supporting that it was the true spelling.
Chicago Blackhawks tickets would go on sale for their first ever game on November 17, 1926. The game was against the Toronto St. Pat's at the Chicago Coliseum. The Blackhawks would go on to win 4-1. The team defined itself as the one to beat in the early years. On April 10, 1934 their strong play would win them their first Stanley Cup victory against Detroit. April 10, 1934 they would once again take home a championship against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Blackhawks would get back to the finals in 1944 but lose in four games to the dominating Canadiens. The teams third Stanley Cup would come on April 16, 1961 by beating the Detroit Red Wings 5-1.
Throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's the Chicago Blackhawks would put solid teams out on the ice. They consistently got into the playoffs throughout each era, many times exiting in the early rounds. In 1992 they would return to the finals, the first time in 19 years. The club set an NHL record with 11 consecutive post season wins. The defending championship Pittsburgh Penguins led by Mario Lemieux proved to be too powerful, the Penguins swept the series. 2010 would lead to Chicago Blackhawks tickets being sold for the finals once again. They would go on to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers in six games and bring the trophy back to Chicago for the first time since 1961.
