Collected Stories Tickets
Linda Lavin returns to Broadway…Collected Stories is currently in previews at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater with an official start date of April 28, 2010. Linda Lavin is Ruth Steiner, a celebrated author who becomes a mentor (and rival) to a young writer (Sarah Paulson). This marks Manhattan Theatre Club's Broadway premiere of Donald Margulies acclaimed play that had success with in its 1997 New York City premiere Off-Broadway. This drama chronicles the relationship between two female writers, a celebrated New York author and her young protégé. As their enthralling story evolves, and the line between fact and fiction blurs, Margulies spins a tale full of twists and turns and examines this complex relationship. The play is a witty character study that forces the ramifications of certain actions to the forefront. Collected Stories focuses on Ruth Steiner, a New York author with a dry wit and a distinguished career, who shares the stage with a bright-eyed young protégé, Lisa Morrison. As their relationship grows, drama ensues and their story comes to an explosive conclusion. Collected Stories is inspired by a real story in which a man brought a case of plagiarism against a student. Pulitzer Prize winning writer Margulies has also penned Dinner With Friends, plus Brooklyn Boy, Sight Unseen, Time Stands Still among authors. The chemistry between the two leading actresses is magical. Tony award winner Lavin is best known for her role as Alice on the television sitcom of the same name, but has also starred on Broadway in such productions as Gypsy and Broadway Bound. She has also worked with director Lynne Meadow on MTC's hit The Tale of the Allergist's Wife. Golden Globe nominee Sarah Paulson, known for TV's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and Broadway's The Glass Menagerie will also be featured in the cast playing opposite Lavin. This is an engrossing tale of friendship and betrayal. What happens when a person trusts against their better judgment and pays the ultimate career price? It deals with issues of plagiarism in the literary world. It’s a powerful production that shouldn’t be missed. The show is currently on a limited run and is scheduled to close on June 13, 2010.
