Come Fly Away Play – A Frank Sinatra Song And Dance
Come Fly Away play previewed at the Marquis Theatre on March 1, 2010 and is opening at the same venue on March 30, 2010. Originally titled Come Play with me, the play premiered during fall, at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre, last year. Though the play is fairly new, it has received great reviews during its run at Atlanta and during the ongoing previews on Broadway. The PlayCome Fly Away play is based on the music performed by the great Frank Sinatra, who, of course, needs no introduction. This musical – a dance, a romance, a seduction, and a musical fantasy – includes songs made famous by “Ol’ Blue Eyes” himself, such as "Summer Wind," "Fly Me To The Moon," "My Way," "That's Life," Theme from “New York, New York" and "I've Got the World on a String." The play also has Sinatra’s “I’ve Got a Crush on You,” a duet sung and performed on stage by Holley Farmer and John Selya. The Broadway production of Come Fly Away play includes performers and dancers, such as Holly Farmer, John Selya, Keith Roberts, Ashley Tuttle, Alexander Brady, Charlie Neshyba-Hodges, Laura Mead, Karine Plantadit, Rika Okamoto and Matthew Dibble. These performers and dancers were part of the cast that performed in Atlanta. The play is described by its producers as “the new Broadway musical that brings together the legendary music of Frank Sinatra and the creative vision of Tony Award winner Twyla Tharp,” and “This one-of-a-kind experience combines the seductive vocals of "Ol' Blue Eyes" with the sizzling sound of a live 19-piece big band and the visceral thrill of Tharp's choreography.” The story of the musical is that of four couples, who fall in and out of love in the course of an evening at a swinging night club. The show promises to transport its viewers to “a world of sparkling romance and astonishing beauty.” The critics and viewers alike have given raving reviews about this exhilarating musical. Produced by James L. Nederlander, Troika Entertainment, and others, Come Fly Away play is based on the book by Twyla Tharp, who has also directed and choreographed this musical. Others in the creative cast include James Youmans (Scenic Design), Katherine Roth (Costume Design), Don Sebesky (Orchestrations), Russ Kassoff (Pianist/Conductor), Jerry Dodgion (Saxophonist), and Dave Stahl (Trumpeter), among others.
