Opening at the Imperial March 3, 2005 a popular musical comedy on Broadway, the schedule is set to run through March 10 2006.
The Imperial is located North side of West 45th Street, between Broadway & 8th Avenue.
The musical is based on the hit 1988 movie of the same name, and focuses on two con men who spend their time working the wealthy French Rivera. Freddy Benson is more of a small time con artist who draws sympathy from women for his stories of his dying grandmother. Lawrence Jameson is a more profound con man who also takes advantage of women, however he is more suave and goes about his plan in a different manner.
The two men and up meeting on a train and try to use their talents together to take advantage of the rich and wealthy of the area, soon they realize that the French Rivera is not big enough for the two of them and make a wager for who will "own" this sought after territory. The first to scam 50,000 dollars from an unsuspecting women will be the only one who can work the streets. Funny and comical events then take off as each man tries to take control, leaving the audience in stitches with unexpected twists which always leaves you guessing just what will happen.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was the 2005 Tony Awards Winner for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical (Norbert Leo Butz) and 11 nominations including best musical. Directed by Jack O'Brien and music and lyrics by David Yazbek.
