Godspell Tickets For A Great Musical On Broadway

Godspell tickets are always sold out when the show is on. When this great musical first debuted in the spring of 1971, the tickets sold out fast. Godspell is one of the greatest musical ever. This show has been successful in US and abroad as well.

Five Year Run

After five years of off-Broadway tickets being sold out, the show finally made its Broadway debut in 1976. It then moved to Plymouth and the Ambassador. The show finally closed on September 4, 1977 after 527 performances. In total, the musical had a total of 2,600 performances, which includes both on and off-Broadway performances.

The fact that the show was a hit is not just evident from the fact that Godspell tickets were always sold out, but also because the show has been greatly responsible for establishing Toronto as a major theater center that was capable of supporting its own productions and actors. In 1972 and 1973, the Toronto production came up. The production cast local actors for the show. This was in fact the first paying job for these actors. Many of the cast members went on to feature in the film version of the musical.

The popularity of the Godspell tickets can also be grasped from the fact that in the last four years of its New York run, there were a total of 25 companies performing Godspell around the world. Eight of these were resident companies and three of them were touring ones. Godspell even made its impact on the pop culture, as its song “Day by Day” reached the 13th spot on the Billboard Top 100 list.

Credits

John Michael Tebelak first directed Godspell as his Master Thesis project at the young age of 22. He then went on to direct the productions of Godspell at La MaMa Theater in February, 1971. The uniqueness of the musical and the unique way Jesus is presented in the musical has impressed critics and audiences alike. No wonder Godspell tickets are always in high demand.

In 2008, Godspell is making a Broadway comeback. This time around the musical is being directed by Daniel Goldstein. He recently directed the off-Broadway of the Fringe Festival musical Walmartopia. His other off-Broadway credits include Beau Willimon’s Lower Ninth at SPF, Kenny Finkle’s Indoor/Outdoor at the DR2, But I’m A Cheerleader at the New York Musical Theater Festival and Bathsheba Doran’s Living Room in Africa at Gloucester Stage.
