A new show takes up residence at the Nederlander Theatre this March. Guys and Dolls begins previews on February 3, 2009 with an official start date of March 1, 2009. Since Rent’s departure a few months ago this is the first show to play at this theater in twelve years. Based on two short stories, “The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown” and “Blood Pressure” by Damon Runyon the show chronicles the lives of small time gamblers and the ladies in their lives. The production stars Tony award nominee Oliver Platt and Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham.

Set in 1940’s New York small time gambler Nathan Detroit bets his charming friend Sky Masterson that he can’t make the next woman he sees fall in love with him. A confident Sky takes the bet but unfortunately for him the next dame to walk in is the neighborhood missionary Sarah Brown. This sets the stage for an old-fashioned musical that will knock your socks off! The music, choreography and set will take you back to vintage Broadway where big shows, lavish stories and catchy tunes were what were expected. This show delivers it all!

The show first took Broadway by storm in 1950 where it ended up winning five Tony awards including Best Musical and Best Book. The 1955 film adaptation starred Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra and Jean Simmons. The current cast features some very talented and well-known actors. In the role of Nathan is Oliver Platt who received a Tony award nomination for his work in the 2006 production of Shining City. He has also received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for his role in Huff as well as Emmy nominations for his outstanding guest starring roles in West Wing and Nip/Tuck. Starring opposite Platt is Lauren Graham who is best known for her Golden Globe nominated role as Lorelai Gilmore in the popular series The Gilmore Girls. This performance will mark her Broadway debut. Also featured in the cast are Tony award nominee Craig Bierko and Kate Jennings Grant. The last time this show was revived was in 1992 and it starred Peter Gallagher and stage favorite Nathan Lane.

The mesmerizing score by Frank Loesser features such incredible show tunes as “Luck Be A Lady”, “A Bushel and A Peck” and “Guys and Dolls”. It has been seventeen years since this unforgettable show has been seen on the Great White Way – you’ve waited long enough! Guys and Dolls Broadway tickets are on sale now for this fabulous show – get your seats today. Come see why this show is quintessential Broadway at its best!
