The Plot

The musical, Guys and Dolls revolves around the activities of New York petty criminals and gamblers during the Prohibition-era. Characters like, Nathan Detroit, Benny Southstreet, and Nicely Nicely Johnson – all have dark sides, but they are all lovable due to the comic element in the play.

Nathan Detroit earns his living by running a “floating crap game.” his fiancé of 14 years, Miss Adelaide, is constantly encouraging him to give up his illegal activities and live a straight life.

With the arrival of “high-rollers” in town, Nathan has to take his floating game somewhere else. Due to strong police presence, there is only one place where he can carry on with his illegal activity and that is Biltmore garage. However, the owner requires $1,000 deposit as security.

This is where the story of Guys and Dolls takes a turn. Here Nathan meets Sky Masterson, a gamble who likes to bet on almost anything. So Nathan puts a bet in front of him - Sky has to take Sarah Brown to dinner in Havana, Cuba. The problem is that Miss Sarah Brown is from Save a Soul Mission and is complete opposite of Sky Masterson. You will have to see Guys and Dolls reviews to catch the whole story
