1945 Pulitzer Prize for Drama Revival Comes To Broadway!

Harvey tickets will return for sale on Broadway this June for the revival. The 1944 play written by American playwright Mary Chase won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1945. The Roundabout Theatre Company heads the production for the Broadway revival which is gaining attention. The comedy is scheduled for a limited engagement at the Studio 54 theatre with an official opening night on June 14, 2012.

Harvey tickets first sold on Broadway for the premiere on November 1, 1944 at the 48th Street Theatre. The production enjoyed great commercial success, running for 1,775 performances before final curtain on January 15, 1949. Antoinette Perry directed a fantastic cast which included Frank Fay as Elwood P. Dowd and Josephine Hull as Veta Louise Simmons. The play would continue a London run in 1949 at the Prince of Wales Theatre. The first and only Broadway revival ran from February 24, 1970 to May 2, 1970, which starred James Stewart and Helen Hayes.

The play is a straight comedy about Elwood P. Dowd and his unseen (except to him) imaginary friend Harvey. His friend is self described as a six-foot, three-and-one-half-inch rabbit. To the alarm and concern of friends and family, Elwood introduces Harvey to everyone he meets. The actions cause embarrassment to his sister Veta, whom is always working to climb the social ladder. Veta begins to work on having her brother committed to spare her family any further embarrassment by his actions and behavior. The comedic antics really take off as they arrive at the sanitarium to commit Elwood. As the confusion subsides Veta must come to terms on taking a chance of using medical options to change her brother or simply accepting him and his friend Harvey as they are.

The Roundabout Theatre Company's production begins previews on May 18, 2012. Directed by Scott Ellis, Jim Parsons stars as Elwood, with a cast that features Jessica Hecht, Charles Kimbrough, Larry Bryggman and Carol Kane. Kimbrough is best known as the two-time Emmy winner and star of CBS' The Big Bang Theory. Parsons received strong critical support for his role as Tommy Boatwright in Broadway's "Normal Heart." Jessica Hecht may be known to many for her Tony Nominated role in "A View From the Bridge."

Harvey tickets for this summer's Broadway revival should be a hot ticket. With a limited run set to close on August 5, 2012 seats may be difficult to procure. The hilarious story, great cast and strong history of the show on Broadway, along with positive reviews should make "Harvey" one of the more popular new productions On Broadway this summer. Make sure to book your seats early to avoid disappointment and enjoy the show!
