The show is a romantic musical based on the book by David Lindsay-Abaire, which was further adapted from the novel by the same name written by Nick Hornby. High Fidelity has also been made into a film, and has now been adapted for production on Broadway.
This Walter Bobbie directed, and Chris Gattelli choreographed musical with music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Amanda Green previewed on Broadway at the Imperial Theater November 20, 2006, and after 19 previews opened on December 7, 2006. This 2 hours and 15 minutes long musical with one intermission, is a story of Rob. Rob is a record-store owner who knows a lot about pop music, but practically nothing about how to deal with the opposite sex.
High Fidelity is a story about Rob, who is unlucky in love, and learns a lot about love and life. After his girlfriend leaves him, he is determined to find out what went wrong, and what did he do to spoil the relationship. This is a story of Rob’s love life, his heartaches, of his being dumped by his girlfriend, and his romantic comeback – which was billed as ‘one of the top 5 romantic comebacks ever.’ The Venue
The romantic musical is running at the Imperial Theater, which is situated at 249 West 45th Street. This theater, which was built in 1923 – to replace their out of date Lyric Theatre - was the fiftieth theater built by the famous Shubert Brothers in the New York area. The Imperial Theater, designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp, was designed as a musical comedy house, and has a seating capacity of 1,650.
Over the years, the Imperial Theater, which has been the pride of the Shuberts, has seen some of the best performances on Broadway. One of the finest musical comedy houses ever built, the Imperial Theater was completely refurbished by the Shubert Organization, a few years back.
This is the theater that today, is performing this highly romantic comedy.Obtaining The Tickets
