The production of Impressionism Broadway has proved to be a big hit and will finally close on May 10, 2009. Impressionism is a new play written by the famous playwright Michael Jacobs and directed by Jack O’Brien. It has had 23 previews and 56 regular performances. The story of the play is fascinating. The plot of the story develops when a world traveling photojournalist and a New York gallery owner meet each other incidentally. Both of them are nursing a broken heart.

This Broadways show’s two protagonists are played by Tony award winners Jeremy Irons and Joan Allen. It should be noted that in this play, Jeremy Iron has made his first appearance in Broadway. Beside them it also stars Marsha Mason, Andre De Shields, Michael T. Weiss, AaronLazar, Margarita Levieva, and Hadley Delany.

The Creative Team Of This Play Includes:

Scott Pask for graphic design
Catherine Zuber for costume design,
Natasha Katz for lighting design,
Elaine McCarthy for projection design,
Leon Rothenberg for sound design, and
Bob James for its original music score

The audience had high expectations from Jack O’Brien’s new play Impressionism. Surprisingly, it did not receive very positive response from the critics during its opening. Jeremy Gerard in Bloomberg suggested that it did not meet up with the expectation that it made with a starcast like Jeremy Irons and Joan Allen and compared the play with not so successful some contemporary plays. But later it got tremendous positive response from its viewer as well as the critics and proved to be one of the most successful productions of Broadway. According the record, Impressionism outperformed Jane Fonda’s “33 Variations” by over $22,000.
