Jewtopia previewed at the Off-Broadway theater, the Westside Theater (Downstairs) on September 28, 2004, and opened on October 21, 2004, and has had more than 750 sold out performances, since then. This smash hit comedy that offers 2 hours of belly laughs was written by Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson, two unknown, struggling, actors and writers doing stand up comedy in Los Angeles. To get noticed, they decided to write, produce and star in their own play – and the result was Jewtopia.
After a successful run of 18 months in Los Angeles, the show has been running to full houses for more than 2 years at the Westside Theater (Downstairs). In the first 20 weeks of its running, the production recouped its capitalization of $625,000! This Off-Broadway comedy has New York screaming with laughter. The Story
This is a story of two 30 years old single men, one Jewish and the other Gentile. The Jew - Adam Lipschitz – is obsessed with dating gentile girls, (who will not remind him of his mother), and the other - Chris O'Connell – is in search of a Jewish girl, who will make all decisions for him.
They form a secret pact to help each other with their cultures. This is a hilarious story of the clash of cultures, and the chaos that ensues, thereafter. The Venue
The Westside Theater (Downstairs) is one half of the Westside Theater, with a seating capacity of 249 seats. The Theater is the lower part of the two Off-Broadway theaters, extensively renovated in 1991 under the management of Reno Productions, Inc.
The Westside Theater was originally constructed as a German Baptist Church in 1889, and has been a theater since the 1970s. Other than the currently successful Jewtopia, the Theater has had many popular shows on its Thrust stage, such as Trumbo, The Vagina Monologues, Nixon's Nixon, The Cryptogram, Family Secrets, Later Life, And The World Goes ’Round, and Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You, among others.
The Westside Theater (Downstairs) has recently been made ADA compliant. Wheelchair locations are in the right rear section of the orchestra. Though there are other restrooms just off the lobby level, a unisex wheelchair accessible restroom is located on the lobby level. The Tickets
