La Bete Tickets
David Hyde Pierce Returns to Broadway…David Hirson's 17th-century-set spoof La Bete, starring Tony Award winners David Hyde Pierce and Mark Rylance began previews at the Music Box Theatre in September. The production’s officially opened on October 14, 2010. The show makes a return to Broadway, after a short run back in 1991, directly from the London stage. It plays off of the 17th century antics of arts and populism. La Bete is a comic tour de force about Elomire (Pierce), a snooty classical dramatist who is passionate about the theatre, and Valere (Rylance), a lowly street clown who is in love with himself. When the indecisive princess (Lumley) decides she’s grown tired of Elomire’s royal theatre troupe, he and Valere are left fighting for survival as they fight for the princess’s approval. See what happens when the uptight royal director is forced to hire the vulgar street performer. The talented cast, who are all making the Broadway transfer, is reason enough to see this production. Award winning actors, Mark Rylance, David Hyde Pierce and Joanna Lumley take center stage in this witty revival that had audiences raving in London. Pierce won a Tony Award for his performance in the 2009 production of Curtains and starred in the original Broadway cast of Monty Python's Spamalot. He is best known for his Emmy Award-winning work as Niles Crane on Frasier. Rylance won a Tony for Boeing-Boeing.He just finished his run in the West End production of Jerusalem and is considered one of the world's most prominent Shakespearean actors. Lumley may be best known for her portrayal of Patsy Stone on the award-winning BBC television series, Absolutely Fabulous. This production will mark her Broadway debut. Among her U.K. stage appearances are The Cherry Orchard, Noel and Gertie, and Blithe Spirit. Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus (God of Carnage, Boeing- Boeing, The Norman Conquests) is directing production. This witty, fast-paced play isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. When it debut in 1991, audiences were split and the show closed after 25 performances. It could have gone down in Broadway history as a failure, but then it ended up taking home an Olivier Award when it premiered in London that same year. It took twenty years so head back over the pond, but the second time could be the charm in this case. The production runs and 1hr and 45 minutes with no intermission. The comedy is currently an open-ended show. Tickets InformationLa Bete tickets are selling at the box office for between $76.50 to $126.50.
