Lend Me A Tenor Tickets
Musical Comedy Shines with All-Star CastLend Me A Tenor has been making audiences laugh since it opened in March at the Music Box Theatre in April. It’s under the direction of film star Stanly Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada and Julie and Julia) and features television stars Tony Shalhoub (Monk) and Anthony LaPaglia (Without A Trace). This is a revival of Ken Ludwig’s 1989 Broadway farce where anything can happen and certainly does. It makes for an extremely interesting to hours at the theatre.
Set in the 1930s, in a hotel suite with six doors, Lend Me a Tenor is a hilarious screwball comedy that takes place when Tito Merelli, the hot-tempered and world famous Italian opera star, arrives in Cleveland, Ohio to make his debut with the local opera and promptly goes missing. Through a amusing series of mishaps, Tito is given a double dose of tranquilizers, causing his pulse to drop so low that the opera house manager believes him to be dead. His understudy must go on in his place and from here a comedy is born. What ensues is a chain-reaction of mistaken identity, plot twists galore, double entendres, innuendoes, and constant entrances and exits through many doors.
The production can’t help but be a hit. The dialog, cast, set and plot all come together to create a comedy of epic proportions. Tony and Academy Award nominee Tucci is making his Broadway directorial debut with the first Broadway revival of the comedy about a production of Verdi's Otello gone awry. The talented cast has many nods and awards among them. Tony winner LaPaglia (A View from the Bridge, The Rose Tattoo) stars as opera singer Tito Merelli, Golden Globe winner Shalhoub (Conversations With My Father) is producer Sanders and Justin Bartha ("The Hangover," "National Treasure") makes his Broadway debut as the producer's assistant Max. The cast also features two-time Tony nominee Jan Maxwell (The Royal Family, Coram Boy) as Maria, Mary Catherine Garrison (Assassins, Rabbit Hole) as Maggie, Tony nominee Jennifer Laura Thompson (Urinetown, Wicked) as Diana, Jay Klaitz (High Fidelity) as the Bellhop and Brooke Adams (The Heidi Chronicles, "Monk") as Julia.
The production is currently scheduled as an open-ended production and is a treasure to catch in the early stages with the above mentioned cast. Audiences and critics are raving about this door-slamming comedy. It’s this seasons must see comedy. Get your Lend Me A Tenor tickets as soon as possible. You’ll be glad you did.
