Les Miserables Tickets
LES MIZ RETURNS TO BROADWAY! This October, the classic production will become the longest running musical in the world, surpassing the twenty-one year old record of Cats. To celebrate this historic event, a limited six month engagement opens November 9, 2006 at the Broadhurst Theater on Broadway. This musical phenomenon took the world by storm when it opened in London in 1985 and eventually went on to become the third longest running show in Broadway history. Miz is not only the most performed musical throughout the world, but probably the most famous. Les Miserables, Translated from French as the miserable ones, is based on the novel by French author Victor Hugo. It chronicles the life of Jean Valjean once he is paroled from prison, after serving nineteen years, for stealing a loaf of bread and then running from the police. The story takes the audience through twenty years, and in that time he breaks parole, becomes an influential businessman, a mayor and adopts a helpless child named Cosette. In all of those years, Valjean tried to do the right things in life and in the eyes of the Lord all while running from Javert, a relentless and very motivated police inspector. Les Miz found its way to Broadway in March of 1987. In its first season it was nominated for twelve Tony awards, and took home eight including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Since its debut, Les Miz has been seen by over 53 million people worldwide. After a successful sixteen year run on Broadway it finally closed in May of 2003 with 6,680 performances. This spectacular production has been credited with bringing a whole new generation to the theater, and inspiring many of those audience members to pursue theater careers. The powerful score drives the story of this production with its recurrent musical themes, and at times can move the audience to tears. One of the most emotional scenes in this play is when Valjean sings “Bring Him Home” about a wounded solider who his daughter is in love with. After this particular song is over, one can hear a pin drop throughout the theater. Some of the other well-known songs include “Who Am I,” “Do You Hear the People Sing?” and the haunting ballot “On My Own”. All of the dialogue is set to music and literally flows from scene to scene. Les Miserables touches people in ways that no other musical ever has before. The enchanting music, the rotating stage and the unforgettable characters all contribute to an amazing theater experience. With each performance of this timeless classic, the message and the intrigue of this masterpiece continue to evolve. Les Miz has a special place in the hearts of many theatergoers. With the limited run scheduled to open this fall, many new audiences as well as those who have seen it again and again can experience this not to be missed musical event!
