Lysistrata Jones tickets for the new musical by Douglas Carter Beane have it Broadway. The production is set to open on December 14, 2011 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Previews had been staged since November 12, 2011 and the musical is scheduled for an open-run. The story of an Athens basketball team struggling for their first win in over thirty years is being billed as an "boisterous new musical comedy." Reviews have been mixed on the show which includes humor, cheerleaders, show tunes and basketball.

The quirky and sometimes sexy story focuses around the Athens University basketball team, and the new transfer Lysistrata Jones played by Patti Murrin. When the girlfriends of the players decide to give up on every seeing the team win a game Lysistrata Jones comes up with a plan, deprive them of "getting any." Without a win in thirty years the new form of motivation just might turn the team around as they "desperately" try to get a win and back into the good graces of their girlfriends.

Lysistrata Jones is written by Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane (Sister Act, The Little Dog Laughed) and Lewis Flinn. The Broadway musical production is both directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Dan Knechtges. The story is loosely based on the original "Lysistrata", and ancient Greek play by funnyman Aristophanes. The current Broadway production is a "pop" remake which plays off the original storyline of a "sex strike" during wartime. The show mixes it up with dancing and show tunes as well as modern style humor which Beane said to have been inspired from the film "American Pie."

Lysistrata Jones is an interesting musical addition to The Great White Way. A mix of dancing and basketball which seems somehow to come together quite amazingly. The show features some catchy new tunes, creative dance routines and laugh out loud moments, which are sure to entertain viewers at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Whether the musical can grab hold of a mainstream Broadway audience is tough to imagine, but it is certain to do well among those looking for something a bit zany and different. Lysistrata Jones tickets are now on sale for all performances!
