After graduating high school Madonna moved to New York City to continue and chase her dreams with limited funds. In 1979 she formed a rock band called " Breakfast Club," with a fellow musician Dan Gilroy. By 1980, she helped formed a more polished band named "Emmy" with Stephen Bray, which caught some buzz and the eyes of Sire Records. Madonna could sign with the label in 1982 and released her first song "Everybody," which received considerable radio play and became a hit. Madonna along with Sire released a following single in 1983 called "Burning Up," which also did great on the charts.
Later in 1983 Sire released Madonna first full LP title simply "Madonna." The album found great debut success peaking at number eight on the Billboard charts. In 1984 Madonna and Sire released her sophomore album titled " Like A Virgin," which jumped straight to the top of the charts. By the mid eighties, Madonna became a pop-culture icon for her racy song lyrics, fashion statements and dance routines. Her fame and creativity became a staple of the era, defining a generation. Of course, Madonna was never willing to settle. The "Material Girl" consistently changed and adapted, growing an even stronger fan base along the way. Madonna could break into film with popular eighty's movies such as Vision Quest (1985), Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), and A Certain Sacrifice (1985). She followed up or movie career with more hit singles, albums and fashion statements.
