Roundabout Brings Revival Of Classic Play To Broadway!

Man and Boy tickets are sale for the Roundabout Theater Company's revival production. The respected Terence Rattigan drama will star Frank Langella as Gregor Antonescu, a powerful businessman who sets out to help his struggling sons business venture during the Great Depression. Frank Langella returns to the big stage for the first time since his work on “A Man for All Seasons," in 2008. Previews begin at the American Airlines Theater on September 9, 20011 with an official opening night scheduled for October 9. Man and Boy tickets are set for a limited-engagement with the show closing on November 27. Terence Rattigan is considered one of England's greatest dramatists of the 20th century. Born in 1911 in South Kensington, London, England his works center around upper-middle class society and themes. Some of Mr. Rattigan's most popular works include The Winslow Boy (1946), The Browning Version (1948), The Deep Blue Sea (1952) and Separate Tables (1954). "Man And Boy" first debuted in London at the The Queen's Theatre and also the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Broadway in 1963. The first production did not fair well with critics and audiences. In 2005 the first revival was staged at the Duchess Theatre in London. David Suchet starred as the lead role of Gregor Antonescu and received great accolades for his work, breathing new life into the dramatic play. The Roundabout Theatre Company decided that another Broadway run was worth the risk. With Tony Award winner Frank Langella on board the production was financed and now in previews. Fitting for the times and perfect for New York's current climate the production is a study of a ruthless, sociopathic businessman and his impact on others. The effects of his cutthroat actions are examined through his son and his wife. The story is based on real life characters including Ivar Kreuger (an early 20th century financier, who built monopolies and Ponzi schemes) and the shady American investor Samuel Insull as influence for Gregor Antonescu. Man and Boy tickets are on sale now for all show times to this intriguing dramatic play. Man and Boy is being revived in celebration of Rattigan’s 100th anniversary of birth. The writing fits timely into the social and economic condition of New York City as well as the world. The current [production is under the direction of Maria Aitken. Aitken is well known on Broadway for her terrific work on Alfred Hitchcock's "39 Steps which played both the U.K. and Broadway. The cast also includes Adam Driver as Basil Anthony, Francesca Faridany as Countess Antonescu , Zach Grenier as Mark Herries , Brian Hutchison as David Beeston, Virginia Kull as Carol Penn and Michael Siberry as Sven Johnson.
