Matilda tickets have sparked much curiosity on Broadway this Spring. After a successful and much talked about West End run Dennis Kelly's musical is set for opening night on Broadway. The story is based on a children's novel of the same name which features a 5-year-old girl who finds solace in reading. The new musical features music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. Tickets are now on sale for all show times at the Shubert Theatre. Previews beginning on March 4, 2013 and an official opening night set for April 11, 2013. Make sure to check "Matilda the Musical," out as it won over critics and audiences alike during it's run on London's West End.

Matilda the Musical is based on a 1988 children's novel written by Roald Dahl. The story tells of a five year old girl named Matilda born into the Wormwood family. The father, Mr. Wormwood, is less then thrilled with his daughter and was rather hoping for another boy. The Mrs. Wormwood hardly takes notice of her daughter focused more on her personal life. Matilda becomes very unhappy with her home life and family. She embraces the hobby of reading and at five years old is already getting through several books per week. Matilda soon begins school where one of her teachers, Miss Honey, notices that Matilda has a special gift. The teacher works hard to help the young girl reach her full potential, but it seems neither the hierarchy of the school or the parents have any interest in nurturing her talents. Matilda must continue to rebel and search for peace with her books.

In 2009 the Royal Shakespeare Company announced is would begin work to adapt the popular novel for the stage. The company hired Dennis Kelly as playwright, Tim Minchin as the composer and lyricist, with direction by Matthew Warchus. The premiere staging took place at the Courtyard Theatre in England on December 9, 2010. The musical then found a home on London's West End in 2011 at the Cambridge Theatre. Matilda The Musical began wining awards and was nominated for 10 Oliver Awards and the musical won 7 Oliver's including Best New Musical.

In February of 2012 the Royal Shakespeare Company announced the production would transfer to Broadway. The Broadway production at the Shubert Theatre will continue to be based in England despite attempts of producers to make the show more "Americanized." Small changes were made to lyrics in order to appeal more favorable to "American' ears. Three members of the original West Production's will reprise their roles which include Oliver winner Bertie Carvel as Miss Trunchbull, with Lauren Ward as Miss Honey and Ted Wilson also continuing as Eric. Actress Sophia Gennusa will take on the demanding leading role.

Matilda the Musical has received rave reviews from both London Critics and American critics alike. Songs include "Miracle," "Naughty," and "Revolting Children." Matilda is sure to gain a strong audience on Broadway as critics are already singing the show's praises. Matilda the Musical is sure to be on the best new Musical's on Broadway this year so make sure not to miss it's open-ended run!
