Four Rock n Roll Legends Take the Stage

Million Dollar Quartet , the new smash hit musical of the spring season, opened at the Nederlander Theatre in April and has audiences and critics alike buzzing about this production that recounts this historical evening. This new musical features songs by four legendary rock icons; Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. This production was nominated for three Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical.

On December 4, 1956, fate brought Cash, Lewis, Perkins, and Presley together at Sun Records studio in Memphis for what later became a meeting of the masterminds of rock music. The four legends-to-be came together for the only time in their massive careers for an unplanned recording that has come to be known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time. Million Dollar Quartet captures the contagious spirit, raw talent and exhilarating music of a moment caught in time. Producer Sam Phillips had a knack for business and thought to record these four legends in the making as they came together for one of the most memorable nights in music history. This dazzling musical brings you inside the recording studio with four major talents who came together as a onetime rock 'n' roll band for one memorable night.

This is a unique theater experience. The show has a relatively unknown cast, but they embody the true spirit of who they are portraying. The resemblance to their original, respective characters and the take they have on the music and their styles is uncanny. The production features a light plot, and runs through career highlights to get to the point of the show: the music, which is performed in a high energy atmosphere. Audiences who have a full appreciation for the 50’s rock era will be moving their hips and thumping to the beat created by each piano and guitar. Levi Kreis, the rocker who made his Broadway debut playing Jerry Lee Lewis in the musical revue Million Dollar Quartet, took home a 2010 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

The score is what makes this production and is responsible for the rave reviews this show is achieving. Million Dollar Quartet brings that extraordinary night to life, featuring rock hits that includes "Blue Suede Shoes," "Fever," "That's All Right," "Sixteen Tons," "Great Balls of Fire," "Walk the Line," "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," "Who Do You Love?," "Matchbox," "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Hound Dog."

The production runs for ninety minutes with no intermission and is currently on an open-ended run. Get your Million Dollar Quartet tickets today to see why the New York Times said, “A buoyant new musical that whips the crowd into a frenzy with blast after blast of explosive vitality.”
