Hilton Theatre History

In 1997 Garth Drabinsky tore down The Apollo and Lyric Theatres and created a combination of both buildings, the new remodled Ford Center For Performing Arts, the theatre held on to the lavish designs of both theater houses. The project was taken on by the Canadian production firm Livent

The opening performance "Ragtime" was the venue for the theatre in 1998, in which it was replaced by the current venue in 2001, the revival of 42nd street. Currently Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is playing. The Hitlon Theatre is located in the heart of the famed Broadway Theater district and has changed hands a bit often in the last years. SFX had taken over the theatre in a bankrupcy buy out in 1999. The Ford Motor Company withdrew it's deal for sponsorship in 2004, at this time the Hilton Hotels coperation has become the owners of the theatre house.
