True New York Story Comes To Broadway!

Newsies tickets are available for the new high energy musical on Broadway. The Disney Theatrical Productions stage show is based on the 1992 film. Both the film and stage production is based on true events of the Newsboys Strike of 1899, which took place in New York City. The production is scheduled for an open-ended run at the Nederlander Theatre. The production includes songs from the original film with some new tunes added to the Broadway production. Reviews have been positive and "Newsies" looks to be an exciting fresh musical addition for the Great White Way this summer.

Newsies tickets bring the audience into a true piece of American history from the turn of the century. The story centers around a small group of young men who buy and sell newspapers, known as "newsies." Many of the workers are homeless and/or orphaned and live together. The small group of main characters include Jack Kelly his disabled friend Crutchie and brothers Davey, and Les. The group hopes to one day be able to leave the city and job to head out west. Jack wakes up one morning after dodging being captured by a juvenile detention center to learn the publication company of the newspaper has raised prices, meaning less pay for the newsies. Jack becomes outraged by the news and begin planing protests against the cost increase. While Jack struggles to motivate the fellow workers, Davey can launch a full-scale strike. The action causes direct confrontation with police and strikebreakers. The story gets the attention of a young up and coming female reporter Katherine Plumber, whom helps bring the story to the forefront. The group continues to fight in their cause devising a hopeful plan to fulfill all their needs.

Newsies tickets originally sold for the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey where the first staging ran from September 25, 2011 through October 16. The production included directing by Jeff Calhoun, with choreography by Christopher Gattelli. Overall reviews for the show were favorable. The new musical was brought to Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre, scheduled for a limited-engagement run. After the first previews, Disney announced it would stay on Broadway for an open-ended run. The Broadway production includes music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein. The cast includes Jeremy Jordan playing Jack Kelly and John Dossett as newspaper tycoon Joseph Pulitzer. The cast also includes Kara Lindsay as Katharine Plumber, Capathia Jenkins as Medda Larkin, Ben Fankhauser as Davey, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie, and Lewis Grosso and Matthew Schechter sharing the role of Les.

Newsies tickets are on sale now for all show times and performances. The musical is gaining attention and positive critical responses. Many have seen the production as a front-runner for the "Best Play" Tony Award. The show is filled with fun and memorable songs as well as a true story of social change, which appears as eleventh today as it did at the turn of the century in America.
