NJ Nets Tickets At The Continental Airlines Arena
The New Jersey Nets, a professional basketball team of New York, is based at the Continental Airlines Arena in the massive Meadowlands Sports Complex at East Rutherford, New Jersey. The team moved to the Continental Airlines Arena – then known as the Brendan Byrne Arena, in honour of the then governor of New Jersey – in 1981.
The Nets started as a franchise established in 1967 by the American Basketball Association (ABA). Then owned by the trucking magnate, Arthur Brown, who intended to call his team the New York Freighters and base it at the 69th Regiment Armory on Manhattan’s east side, Brown was forced by the pressure from the New York Knicks to change the team’s name to the New Jersey Americans and move to the Armory in Teaneck, New Jersey.
With the Armory already booked, for their home game against the Kentucky Colonels in their very first season, the New Jersey Americans found a replacement in the Long Island Arena in Commack, New York. For their second season starting in 1968, the team decided to stay on at Long Island, and changed its name to the New York Nets. The team came last in their first New York season, and Brown sold the team to Roy Boe – the clothing manufacturer.
After the merger of the ABA with the NBA in the summer of 1976, and prior to the 1977-78 season, Boe decided to move back to New Jersey, and named the team the New Jersey Nets. Though the NJ Nets have never won an NBA Championship, they did lose to the Los Angeles Lakers in the finals at the Arena on June 11, 2002. They have, however, two ABA Championships under their belt – in 1974 and in 1976. The Continental Arena
While waiting for the completion of the new arena at the Meadowlands Sports Complex, the NJ Nets played for four seasons at the Rutgers Athletic Center – now known as the Louis Brown Athletic Center, at Rutgers University. The NJ Rangers moved into the Continental Airlines Arena in 1981, and met with modest success in the four consecutive seasons:
The 1982-83 season was their best since joining the NBA, but lost in the first round of the playoffs. In the 1983-84 season, the Nets won their first NBA playoff series by beating the 76ers. However, they lost the semi-finals to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. The 1984-85 season was injury plagued, but the Nets, however, won 42 games.
The Continental Airlines Arena is a multipurpose indoor arena in the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Along with the NJ Nets, it is home to the New Jersey Devils – the hockey team. The Arena has a seating capacity of 19,968 for the NBA games. The Arena, however, is commonly referred to by the people and the media as the Meadowlands Arena.
The NJ Tickets are quite difficult to obtain unless you know how. At the height of the season, the best option to procure your NJ Nets tickets is through the services of licensed ticket brokers, such as Reedstickets.
