NY Jets tickets
The New York Jets, a very popular football team from New York, ironically, has as its home stadium, a stadium that is neither located in New York, nor is named after itself. This stadium has no semblance, in form or shape, to the Jets. The Giants Stadium at the massive Meadowlands Sports Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is the home of Jets, where it plays all its home games. For the reason that this stadium is named for its rival team – the New York Giants - the New York Jets officially call their stadium The Meadowlands.
The Giants Stadium opened on October 10, 1976, and the Jets shifted base here, from Shea Stadium, in 1984. The Jets were based at the Shea Stadium from 1964 to 1983, a good nineteen seasons. Prior to that, their home base, since their beginning in 1960, was the Polo Grounds in New York City. The Giant Stadium – The Meadowlands
When the Jets first shifted to the Giants Stadium, the stands were almost nearly empty, what with the fans having to come from Long Island, spending 2 to 3 hours to reach the stadium. On top of this, the color of the Giants Stadium was matching with the New York Giants’ blue. Just for these things, it was thought that the move to the Giants Stadium was not a wise one. There was nothing to make the stadium look like the home of the Jets.
A decision was taken in 1989 to cover the stadium walls, during the Jets’ games, with green - the color of the Jets. To make the environment look more Jets-like, green fabric and green banners were taken to cover the stadium’s walls, and the end zones were repainted in green with the logos of the New York Jets.
The New York Jets started their innings at the Giants Stadium on September 9, 1984, with a 23-17 loss to Pittsburgh. There were 70,564 spectators in attendance. The record attendance at the Giants Stadium for the NY Jets game was 79,469 on September 20, 1998, against Indiana, which the Jets won 44-6. At the Giants Stadium, the NY Jets have a 73-78-1 record.
Today, most of the NY Jets games are a total sell-out. With the present stadium lacking many amenities seen in the newer stadiums, a new stadium, to be jointly owned by the New York Jets and the New York Giants, is expected to come up by 2010. The NY Jets Tickets
