Old Acquaintance Tickets
A TALE OF FRIENDSHIP Roundabout Theatre Company presents a revival of John Van Druter’s 1940 comedy Old Acquaintance. This production details the tumultuous friendship of Kit and Millie two successful authors and long time friends. It is scheduled to begin in June at the American Airlines Theatre. The impressive cast is lead by Tony award winner Harriet Harris and Margaret Colin. The play follows the lives of two childhood friends who grow into two very different adults. Although they are both authors, Kit is an independent, free-spirit who is having an affair with a younger man while the divorced Millie is struggling to let go of her teenaged daughter Deidre. Unfortunately for Millie, Deidre strives to be just like her idol Kit, but with that goal Deidre could face dire consequences. As the two lifelong friends thought they were growing apart they now understand that they have much more in common then they thought, and realize that they need each other now more then ever. As old secrets are revealed and petty arguments threaten their friendship they must decide if they should part ways or rely on a sure thing, each other, and stick together. The play first premiered on Broadway in 1940 at the Morosco Theatre, and in 1943 was made into a film starring Bette Davis and Miriam Hopkins. In the current production Harris and Colin make for an interesting duo and together they bring much experience to the stage. Harris won a Tony award as Mrs. Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2002. Her other New York credits include The Man Who Came to Dinner opposite Nathan Lane, The Crucible and the Public Theatre’s production of Hamlet, Julius Caesar and Macbeth. She is well known to television audiences for her role in Fraiser and more recently for her recurring role as Felicia in Desperate Housewives. Colin most recently starred in a production of John Patrick Shanley’s Defiance and has also won a Theatre World Award for her work as First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the Broadway production of Jackie. The show also stars Diane Davis and Stephen Bogardus. Old Acquaintance is a quaint comedy about a lifelong friendship and the issues that can sometimes get in the way. It is realistically funny and easy to relate to especially if you have ever had a lasting relationship with a person that you could sometimes take or leave. This is an enjoyable story with an agreeable cast. The production is on a limited engagement and is scheduled to close on August 19, 2007. Old Acquaintance tickets are selling on average for $40.00 with premium Old Acquaintance tickets costing around $85.00. The American Airlines Theatre has a seating capacity of 741 with a total per eight show week of 5,920. The venue sells out an average of 3,130 per week.
