The play Oleanna is really getting the audiences to buzz this Broadway season. While it has been around for a while, this new version of the Oleanna play still gets people talking. Long after they see this revered play, one will find them discussing it. This is because the play focuses on a controversy and invokes deep feelings in the audience. People have literally described scenes where audiences leave the play still discussing and arguing into the streets.

This is a two person play which focuses heavily on the male and female perspective. While it is centered around one particular action, the different views on what happened is where the controversy lies. The play chronicles the dialogue between a middle-aged man who is a professor and the young female student he meets with in his office. Their encounter and how they each view what really happened is what draws the audience in.

Carol, the female college student comes to see her professor in an attempt to get a grade changed for the better. The professor is happy to meet with her and has a fatherly aura about him when he deals with Carol. The professor is named John. He spends a great deal of time with Carol discussing his tenure aspirations and his attempts to buy a new home.

It is during this seemingly innocent and not too unusual encounter that something takes place. While it is only one action, the audience usually feels they have different opinions and views on it as they are divided on what happened. The audience will find themselves in the middle of the debate and actually start picking sides as to who is the real victim here. This play gives both male and female perspectives and language differences. The rich dialogue what sets this Broadway play apart.

Carol and John are shown again after some time has passed. Through their conversations, the audience learns she had filed a sexual harassment against the professor based on the scene in their first encounter. The differing views that divided the audience based on gender are now in the front and center as this play continues. They argue and try to get to the bottom of what actually happened.

Currently, the roles of Carol and John are being performed on Broadway by Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles. Both of them have had multiple honors and well known film roles which make them more than qualified to pull off such riveting performances on Broadway. This power struggle between men and women is directed by Doug Hughes.
