Phantom Of The Opera Show Tickets
LONGEST RUNNING PRODUCTION ON BROADWAY! For almost twenty years this spectacular production has been mesmerizing audiences and critics alike. The Phantom of the Opera opened on Broadway in January of 1988 at the Majestic Theater where it is still going strong today. In January of 2006 the production played its 7,486 performance, surpassing Cats, making it the longest running show on Broadway. Not only is it the longest running show, but it is the highest grossing entertainment event of all time. The story is based on the novel by Gaston Leroux, and the musical’s moving score was written by the talented Andrew Lloyd Webber. Through the incredible music the audience learns of the story of a naïve chorus girl, Christine Daae, as she becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius known as “The Phantom of the Opera.” Christine believes her new tutor is the angel of music her father had told her about when she was a child. Because of his deformed face the Phantom wears a white mask and resides underground below the Paris Opera where Christine is employed. The Phantom is able to seduce Christine through song and eventually helps her to become a better singer. He tortures the theater employees, and forces the new owners of the opera house to make his prodigy the new star of all of the theater’s productions. Eventually Christine realizes that this haunted man is no angel of music and denies his advances with the help of her boyfriend Raoul. The Phantom is not pleased with this and will do anything to gain Christine’s love. How far will he go? The show features a haunting score with such well-known songs as “The Music of the Night” and “All I Ask of You.” When this show opened on Broadway Michael Crawford, arguable the most popular Phantom of all time reprised his role along with the two other leads, Sarah Brightman (Christine) and Steve Barton (Raoul), from the original London production. In 1988 the show was nominated for eleven Tony Awards and won seven including Best Musical. This musical certainly took the world by storm and continues to attract new fans with each performance. The musical was so popular that in 2004 a film version was adapted for the big screen. It followed the production very closely with some additional scenes that explained the story of the tortured Phantom even further. In the film some of the script was spoken whereas in the musical all dialogue is portrayed in song. The film proved to be a success and was even nominated for three Academy Awards. Phantom’s popularity has also spread to Las Vegas where a permanent production has arrived at the Venetian Hotel. This is a timeless story that audiences can relate to. People can identify with the Phantom’s pain and that is what makes it such a powerful tale. It is a spectacular piece of entertainment that has all the aspects of a moving drama; a love story, a tortured villain, a heroic savior and a beautiful muse. The music, the set, the costumes and the enchanting tale all make for a memorable evening at the theater.
