Sher has been called a genius and it shows in his work. In 2000, Sher became the Artistic Director of INTIMAN. For the current Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific, he has received 2008 Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award. He has also directed Awake and Sing, The Light in the Piazza and The Barber of Seville. It would not be wrong to say that premium tickets South Pacific are in demand because of his mind blowing direction.

The Story

South Pacific is set during the time of World War II. The story is set in one of the South Pacific islands and deals with love and prejudices. The musical is an adaptation of James A. Michener’s book, Tales of the South Pacific. The musical deals with racial prejudices, a topic that was relevant in 1949 and is still strongly so. In the musical, the two main couples- Nellie Forbush and Emile de Becque and Lt. Joseph Cable and Liat- have to confront their prejudices. Their love is confronted by the stereotypes that they grew up with.
