Michener’s book, Tales of the South Pacific. The musical deals with racial prejudices, a topic that was relevant in 1949 and is still strongly so. In the musical, the two main couples- Nellie Forbush and Emile de Becque and Lt. Joseph Cable and Liat- have to confront their prejudices.
