The new Priscilla Queen Of The Desert Broadway musical is making quite a splash on the stage. Every last surface of the Palace Theatre has been decked out with sequins, feathers and mirrored chips along with a dazzling array of colored lights. The story of three Australian drag queen performers heading out on an epic road trip was told in the popular and award winning 1994 film written and directed by Stephan Elliott. The musical has been adapted from the same screenplay co-written by Mr. Elliot and Allan Scott. The show is much like "La Cage Aux Folles (currently in a revival on Broadway), telling the story of "drag life" while mixing in popular foot-stomping songs covering three decades. The stage show was originally produced in Australia (2006) and is currently still playing in London's West End.

The Priscilla Queen Of The Desert Broadway musical is much like an over-the-top coming of age story. The three drag queens performers and good friends Mitzi Mitosis, Bernadette Bassenger and Felicia Jollygoodfellow decide to head out on a road trip to an outback town of Alice Springs for some shows. The trio heads out then their trusted tour bus named "Priscilla" for their epic journey. The trip turns out to be much more than a long drive into a distant town for a job. The three performers learn about their friendships, life and love while not missing a beat.

The musical uses a dizzying array of sing-along pop songs, which are effective in providing the energy for the show. The variety of songs is wide, covering three decades and many different styles. Picture perhaps A gay bar in Miami with a jukebox and four generations of patrons for an idea of the song list. The soundtrack boast songs from Donna Summer, Dionne Warwick , , , , the Village People, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper , , , , Pat Benatar and even the late great John Denver. The new Priscilla Queen Of The Desert Broadway musical follows in the footsteps of other ditsy musicals such as "Mamma Mia!" and "Xanadu" which provide the audience with a guilty pleasure down memory lane. While the musical follows alongside of "La Cage" in overall style it forgoes the complexity in narrative and instead goes for gaudy indulgence.

The Oscar winning creative duo of Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner team up again to deliver their amazing costumes to the stage version. The costume design for the Broadway production has received praise from top critics and audiences alike. The cast includes Will Swenson as Tick (Mitzi), Tony Sheldon, again, reprising his role of Bernadatte, and Nick Adams as Adam (Felicia) under the direction of Simon Phillips. Choreography is by Ross Coleman, set design by Brian Thomson and the lighting design is by Nick Schlieper. Bette Midler joined the vast Broadway production team after seeing a West End Performance.

"Priscilla" made its North American debut at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. The limited 12 week run was a pre-Broadway tryout. The production opened at the Palace Theater on March 20, 2011 after previews, which ran from February 28. Set for an open-ended run, if a touching story of three drag queens in outlandish costumes and a soundtrack you'll be singing for weeks is for you then the Priscilla Queen Of The Desert Broadway musical is not to be missed!
