ROCK MUSICAL WITH AN 80’S FLAIR!

A rock musical with the greatest hits of the 1980’s has transferred from off-Broadway to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Rock of Ages, currently in previews, opens on April 7, 2009 and will even be offering a unique twist for a Broadway show; in seat drink service. The production stars well-known American Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis.

It is the time for big hair, loud electric guitar music, and non-stop partying … it must be Hollywood 1986. The story is told through the iconic, mind-blowing love songs of the era including some of the greatest hits from artists like Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Twisted Sister, Poison and White Snake. Every eighties girl groupies dream … a small town girl meets a big city rocker in Los Angeles most famous night club and they fall in love to some of the best songs of the decade.

Rock of Ages was written by Chris D’Arienzo and made its world premiere in Los Angeles at the Vanguard before moving off-Broadway in October 2008 where it had a successful run. Now it is hoping to “rock” the Great White Way with a cool vibe and familiar rock classics. Playing the role of Drew is Maroulis who is probably best known for his turn on season four of American Idol where he placed sixth in the competition. He made his Broadway debut in the Wedding Singer and has also starred in the off-Broadway production of this show. In the role of Sherrie is Amy Spanger who has had impressive roles in Kiss Me Kate, Chicago and The Wedding Singer. She made her Broadway debut in the 1995 production of Sunset Boulevard. Playing the role of Stacee Jaxx is James Carpinello who originated the role of Tony Manero in the Broadway production of Saturday Night Fever. He appeared in the Tori Spelling television show So NoTORIous and starred in the 2007 production of Xanadu. The cast also features Adam Dannheisser, Mitchell Jarvis and Lauren Molina.

During the show drink service will also be available for those sitting in the orchestra and box seating sections. To create minimal interruption to the show drink chips must be purchased before the first act and during intermission. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be offered as the shows producers feel that it will help people get up and sing along with the shows tunes. While this beverage idea is somewhat unique it is not exactly a new concept for Broadway predecessors include The Rocky Horror Show (1975), Pump Boys and Dinettes (1982) and Cabaret (1998).

If you are looking for a totally different Broadway production then is the show for you especially if you wanted to be in or date a member of a long haired rock and roll band. Whether you are reliving the 80’s or just want to experience them for the first time come out and see this fun, diverse and exciting show!
