South Pacific Broadway tickets are on sale now with Bartlett Sher directing this new production. This would be the musical’s first Broadway revival. This landmark musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein had also enchanted people, way back in 1949, when it was first played. After five years of extraordinary success, the curtains finally came down in 1954. By then the musical had won countless awards, including nine Tony Awards and a Pulitzer.

Adaptation From A Great Book

South Pacific, the musical is an adaptation of James A. Michener’s Tales of the South Pacific. James A. Michener won a Pulitzer award for this book. Joshua Logan read the book and was keen to adapt the story to the stage. Helping him in this task were Leland Howard, Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Joshua Logan directed the musical. Richard Rogers composed the music, and Hammerstein II wrote the lyrics.

The first South Pacific Broadway tickets were sold in 1949, the year when South Pacific made its stage debut at the Majestic Theater in New York City.

The Great Musical

South Pacific Broadway tickets will whisk you away to a tropical island. The story revolves around two couples- Ensign Nellie Forbush and Emile de Becque, and Lt. Joseph Cable and Liat. Nellie Forbush is a nurse from Arkansas and is stationed on a South Pacific Island during the World War II. Lt. Joseph Cable has been sent to the South Pacific Island on a top secret mission.

On this island, Nellie Forbush falls in love with Emile de Becque, who is a middle aged French plantation owner. He is also a father of two native Polynesian children. Meanwhile, Lt. Cable falls in love with Liat, the daughter of a Tonkinese trader, Bloody Mary.

Both Nellie Forbush and Lt. Cable are from America and have deep rooted racial prejudices that they have grown up with. As the war wears on these deep rooted prejudices lead to conflict between these two couples. The war tests their love. Both Emile and Lt. Cable have to go on a dangerous mission in the South Pacific. The mission takes them across enemy lines and they have to leave their women behind. There is a battle with the Japanese and only one of the men returns home alive. Tickets will let you know which of these men returns.
