Finest Musical

South Pacific has been hailed as one of the finest musical ever written. The music of this landmark musical has been composed by Richard Rogers and the lyrics have been written by Oscar Hammerstein II. This landmark musical has been adapted from James A Michener’s Pulitzer Award winning novel, Tales of the South Pacific. South Pacific first hit the Broadway in 1949. The musical was a hit and for the next five years, South Pacific tickets were eagerly sought after. The musical was so successful that a film soon followed in 1958.

Songs

Acclaimed as one of the best musicals to hit the Broadway, the musical includes songs like, “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Younger than Springtime,” “Bali Ha’ I,” “Nothing like a Dame,” “A Wonderful Guy,” “This Nearly Was Mine,” and “Honey Bun.” These enchanting songs ensure that South Pacific tickets are always sold out.

The Story

South Pacific beautifully combines passionate romance in the South Seas paradise with the hard realities of a world at war and it is this setting that makes South Pacific tickets worth their cost. This winner of seven 2008 Tony Awards is set on a tropical island in the Pacific during the World War II. Here on this island, Nellie Forbush, a US Navy nurse, falls in love, against her better judgment, with a mysterious French planter, Emile De Becque. The lifestyle of Emile De Becque could not be more different than conservatism of Forbush’s Arkansas background.

Lt. Joe Cable arrives on the island for a top secret mission that involves spying on the Japanese fleet from behind the enemy line. Here he befriends a Tonkinese trader, Bloody Mary. He soon falls in love with her beautiful young daughter, Liat.

South Pacific revolves around these two couples- Nellie Forbush and Emile De Becque and Lt. Joe Cable and Liat. Their happiness is threatened by the realities of the war and also by their own prejudices. There are dozens of other locals and Navy personnel and they all break into glorious song and dance just at the right moment. These songs and dance routines will keep you mesmerized throughout the three hour musical.

The present production of South Pacific is being directed by the famous Bartlett Sher. Kelli O’Hara plays Nellie Forbush. Paulo Szot essays the role of Emile de Becque. Other cast members include Matthew Morrison as Lt. Joseph Cable and Li Jun Li as Liat. The role of Bloody Mary has been effortlessly essayed by Loretta Ables Sayre.
