Speed The Plow tickets are for the David Mamet’s creation. It is one of his many successful plays about the business world. The play is filled with his trademark quick dialogues and focuses on the harsh nature of Hollywood and the movie industry. This is a very common platform for Mamet after several screenplay productions in the 80s. The phrase is picked up from an English phrase which casts good luck.

Speed The Plow was first produced on Broadway in the Royale Theater on May 3, 1988. The show was a runaway success even before its opening night as the role of Karen was played by pop start Madonna. Ticket sales reached their peak with advanced sales exceeding over $1million. The play highlights men and their complex relationships. His plays have also been criticized for his over-simplified female characters.

Story In A Nutshell

With Speed The Plow tickets we see the story of two Hollywood producers planning and trying to make their next blockbuster with an average script and a famous actor. Their plan gets interrupted by their debate and battle about going to bed with their new secretary Karen. Karen, on the other hand, has her own plans and motives to make movies on her own. This struggle over power, sex, greed, satisfaction and action leave the audience awed by the manipulation.

The show is directed by Brian LaDuca, a graduate student in the Johnny Carson School of Theater and Film at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. Besides the concept of the play, LaDuca is also an ardent fan of David Mamet. Both hail from Chicago which shows clearly in the script. Mamet as critic say bases his language on being explicit and vulgar which LaDuca terms it as street language with a realistic touch added.

The show closed on December 31, 1978 at the Royale Theater after 279 performances. The cast included Joe Mantegna as Gould, Ron Silver as Fox and Madonna as Karen. The show was nominated in Best Play category for Tony award and for Best Direction. Best actor award was won by Silver. Since then it has been produced innumerable times in regional theaters and schools across the county. The year 2006 saw the revival of the play in Los Angeles with Alicia Silverstone playing the role of Karen.

In the year 2008 it was played at London’s Old Vic Theater with Kevin Spacey as Fox, Laura Michelle Kelly as Karen and Jeff Goldblum as Gould. The design team has two time Tony award winners Scott Pask, and Tony award lighting designer Brian MacDevitt and Costume designer Laura Bauer.

David Mamet was the founder of the Atlantic Theater Company. Some of his earlier works include the duck variations, American buffalo, Glengarry Glen Ross (Pulitzer prize), sexual perversity in Chicago, Boston marriage and the Cryptogram (Obie award). He recently adapted the Voysey Inheritance for the Atlantic theater and presented it on the Broadway along with the famous political comedy November. The show times for Speed the Plow tickets are Tuesdays at 7 pm, Wednesdays – Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm.
