The Country Girl On Broadway - First New York Production In More Than Thirty Years

The Country Girl is a classic backstage story of the title character Georgie who is married to actor Frank Elgin. The Country Girl reviews have been raving of how good the play is. If you don’t want to miss it then book your tickets now or else you would end up missing one of the most exciting stories of the decade.

The Stars

The character of Georgie is played by Frances McDormand and actor Frank Elgin is played by Morgan Freeman. The play is directed by Mike Nicholas, one of the most famous directors in the theater industry. It is written by Clifford Odet and also stars Peter Gallagher. The story revolves around Frank Elgin who was a great theater star till a few years ago. Now that he is down on luck, he is offered a major role by a huge director Bernie Dodd. The director’s role is played by Peter Gallagher. The play is all about whether Frank can make a comeback with this role or not.

The Country Girl reviews talk majorly about the stars of the show, both of whom are former Academy Award winners. Morgan Freeman won the award for her performance for ‘The Gospel’ in the year 1988 and Frances McDormand for his performance in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. Even Peter Gallagher was nominated for his role in ‘Long Day’s Journey Into Night’ in the year 2001 by the Tony Awards. Mike Nicholas is also an Academy Award winner and has won the Tony Award eight times.

The running time for the show is two hours and fifteen minutes which includes a fifteen minute intermission. The star cast list includes Chip Zien, Remy Auberjonois, Anna Camp, Joe Roland, and Lucas Caleb Rooney. The production credits go to Tim Hatley for set and costume design, Albert Wolsky for costume design, Natasha Katz for lighting design and Acme Sound Partners for sound design.

The Setting

The show would definitely take you back to the fifties as the director has made sure that the audience receives an old fashioned feel with the setting of the show. Even the costumes and the other designs evoke the era of the fifties. The Country Girl reviews are a mix of positive and negatives. While some find the show to be a powerful mix of emotions and unexpected twists, some others find the show to be lacking in passion and commitment.

The Country Girl reviews also mention the show to be the first major New York production in the last thirty years. This makes it all the more important for you to go and watch the show. You could book the tickets online by one of the various authorized ticket brokers. Several of them are available on the net. They would offer you discount rates as well as package rates for group bookings.

Overall, though the Country Girl reviews are mixed, still it would not be a bad idea to book your tickets now. You surely wouldn’t want to miss one of the most spectacular shows of the 1950s!
